NYC to terminate Trump contracts after Capitol insurrection
NEW YORK (AP) — After last week's U.S. rebellion, New York City will cancel trade arrangements with President Donald Trump.
Capitol, declared Mayor Bill de Blasio Wednesday.
"I'm here to announce that New York City is severing all Trump Organization contracts," de Blasio said during an MSNBC interview.
De Blasio claimed that the Trump Organization, by its contracts with two ice skating rinks and a carousel in Central Park and a golf court in the Bronx, receives about 17 million Dollars a year.
If the management of a corporation is involved in illegal activities, the city may legitimately cancel a deal, said the Democratic Mayor.
"The incitement to revolt—be let's quite clear, let's say the words again—creating uprising against the government of the United States is clearly criminal activity," he stated.
An email was sent to the Trump Organisation on Wednesday requesting comment.
The attempt to end Trump's commercial company in the city he once called home is the newest example of how the violation of January 6 by militant supporters of Trump impacts the business interests of the Republican President.
The PGA of the United States agreed on Sunday to delete the PGA Championship from its New Jersey golf course, which came after social media sites had disabled Trump's accounts and Shopify had shut down its associated online shops.
He said Wednesday that city attorneys decided that if Trump sues the move, the city will prevail. Trump "incited the crowd to invade the Capitol," de Blasio said, "The lawyers looked at it and it was as plain as a bell that was why these contracts have been violated, and we move into it.
The separation with the name-business of the Trump company, however, will not happen overnight. In a news release De Blasio confirmed that the termination deal for operating the Bronx Ferry Point golf course is complicated "and is expected to take several months."
De Blasio said that the termination of the Wollman Rink and Lasker Rink contract for Central Park will take place 30 days after the written notice has been given. The end of the now closed carousel contract is due 25 days after written notice.
The mayor said that the city is going to search for new vendors for all the attractions.
Trump's name will never be stripped from New York City by the rinks, carousel and golf course. It will also run Trump Tower on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue and Trump International hotel on Central Park West.
