EL RENO, Okla. (AP) — President Barack Obama says the criminal justice system needs to distinguish between young people who make mistakes & those who are truly dangerous.

Obama is speaking at the El Reno Federal Correctional Institution, a medium-security prison for male offenders near Oklahoma City. It's the first visit by a sitting president to a federal prison.

Obama says some of the young prisoners he met with made mistakes not that different from those he made in his youth. He says the difference is they did not have the resources & support "to survive those mistakes."
