NATAL, Brazil – Canada's Christine Sinclair scored goal No. 158 of her career on Sunday as Canada beat Trinidad & Tobago 4-0 at the International Tournament of Natal.
The goal ties Sinclair with American superstar Mia Hamm for second on the all-time women's scoring list.
"(Sinclair) led by example, as always," said Canadian coach John Herdman.
p>"It wasn't effortless for her today, the Trinidad team packed the defence & made it tough to obtain behind them, yet we had it clear in our mind that we would obtain goals today & I knew that Sinc would be on the score sheet. She found the room she needed."
Sinclair's goal came in the 85th minute & gave the Canadians a four-goal advantage. Nichelle Prince, Janine Beckie & Diana Matheson moreover found the back of the net for Canada.
It was the 230th cap for Sinclair, who made her debut for Canada in 2000.
"She's very clear in what she wants — to obtain results for this team & to keep pushing whatever threshold she can as a striker," said Herdman. "It's tremendous that she achieved something today, yet to be honest I don't think she looks at things like that, she just wants to do well for our team & for our country."
American Abby Wambach owns top spot on the all-time list with 184 career goals.
Sinclair has a chance to take sole possession of second all-time on Wednesday when the Canadians face host Brazil at the Natal tournament.
